another blog forgotten

alright, i swear i have a good reason… kinda.

my other blog post, i posted right before finals, so i had to lock in hard for those, and then winter break came and i just lost all of my productivity, like my body just didn’t want to do anything brain anymore. it’s a problem i’ve had for a while now, where like once i come home for break, i just lose all my will to create, and instead i just rot on the ‘puter playing my silly games and watching my silly youtubes. granted, i was also pretty busy for the holidays, but i was pretty free since january.

then, this semseter hit me with the most work i’ve ever had in all of my education. not only do i have a fairly full schedule with pretty large workloads for each class, but i’ve also decided to take on being a grader for a different class with the most unorganized professor, which, to be fair, it probably isn’t his fault.

on top of all of that, i’ve become a research assistant for another professor because i was one of the few people in his class to get an A, so i guess that’s pretty cool. even crazier though, this research topic is actually pretty prevalent in the field right now (ant colony optimization algorithms for instruction scheduling, parallelized to run on the GPU) and so my professor actually has ties to AMD since they have a whole ass team working on this exact problem, and furthermore, one of the papers this research group put out was recognized by MIT for having the potential to make a big change for the field in the near future, and one of the assistants was invited to give a talk there! and now i’m helping out with it too, so uh… yeah.

but anyways, i’m finally starting to get a grip on schoolwork, and since midterms are rolling up, i’ve got way more free time to myself and the motivation to do something with it other than doomscroll. hooray!

very cool games over the break

i want to post about a few games i played and finished over the break (and during the semester, too), so i’m putting my checklist here to keep track of that, in order of date completed (least to most recent):

• cyberpunk 2077
• mizu5/ena5
• outer wilds

but for now, i’ll make a few short comments about each of them:

initially, i thought nothing of cyberpunk 2077, especially given the only things i saw about it were clips of it at launch, so i was coming in with zero expectations. the only reason i even tried it was because it’s in my steam family library, and so i decided why not try it. and try i did, since i got insanely hooked onto it, and i was playing for like 12 hours a day, losing sleep to it. it was so much fun, and i want to start a second playthrough soon. my first V was a cool/int streetkid, and next i wanna try a ref/tech corpo V.

i don’t think i ever put my thoughts about mizu5 here, even though the main page is obviously quite inspired. also, i read ena5 and it somehow topped mizu5, so i’ll also be writing about that, too!

outer wilds was such an incredible game. no spoilers here, but there absolutely will be in the full blog post. if you haven’t played/finished it yet and you’re planning to, i highly suggest you do before reading about it from me. you truly can only ever play it once, and that’s the saddest part. i haven’t played the dlc yet, and i don’t think i’m ready for the horror aspects, either 😭
